Achsah O’Donovan
Achsah O’Donovan has been involved with art most of her life, starting out by running a fine arts gallery while also creating, designing and teaching with her rug business.
From there she went to work for Christies Auction House before switching gears to teach and be an administrator for Hurricane Island Outward Bound. This led her to teaching at a high school to at-risk youths and as a case worker for social services, all the while as she painted and sold her work.
She is fortunate today to focus on her art and has studied both at the Art Students League of Denver and the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has also studied with many local and national artists. Achsah’s work has been included at the Encaustic Museum of Art, Sante Fe, New Mexico; Art for Land’s Sake in Baltimore, MD; the Gibson Island Club, Gibson Island, MD; Cylburn Arboretum, Baltimore, MD and Pearl Street Market Gallery, Boulder, CO.
Artist Statement:
Nature has always been my inspiration. The moment in nature that makes one stop and look in awe is what I try and portray with color, layers of paint and value contrasts. The process is a constant push and pull until the result brings me to that spot of initial inspiration.
Henri Matisse, Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, Fairfield Porter, George Innes, Camille Corot, James Whistler, Eugene Delacroix, Kevin Fitzgerald, Tom Fehsenfeld, Agnes Martin, Foresst Moses, Gerhardt Richter and Emily Mason are among the artists that have inspired me.
